Tackling workplace bullying, Transforming workplace behaviour
coping with workplace bullying
In the workplace, the support is primarily centred around formal policies and procedures that are used to raise the issue. Bullying impacts on the business even before getting to the stage of being reported, as well as beyond, affecting staff morale, productivity, absenteeism, costs of management and HR time, financial settlements, recruitment of new staff and reputation.
However, for many people, even reporting the bullying is too much to face. Perhaps you’re not even able to admit to yourself, never mind to others, that you feel bullied? By the time you feel ready to report a bully, the chances are that you have been dealing with the impact for some time and may not therefore be prepared emotionally for the next stage of the journey.
Bullying affects people's behaviours, emotions, self esteem, confidence and work performance. For individuals, whether you are coping with bullying, or being accused of being a bully, where do you turn for support?
Perhaps you've been accused of being a bully, and it's been a shock for you, leaving you trying to understand how this could have happened.
Maybe you've already walked away because it all became too much, and now you need to start again in a new job or role.
This range of programmes has been designed to meet the needs of businesses, but also offer confidential, independent coaching support for individuals. Each programme is designed to help everyone recognise bullying, and understand the impact that it has on individuals, their behaviours, their health and emotional wellbeing, as well as exploring how those changes impact everyone involved, both at work and at home.
Every situation is unique, and the programmes focus on prevention and early intervention, to minimise the long term emotional impact and potential mental health issues that are often faced. Support is also available to help people to move on after experiencing bullying in the workplace.
We work closely with organisations to ensure that the development is appropriate and sustainable to meet both current and future needs. The benefits to businesses are:
Better management of processes through greater understanding of bullying
Early intervention decreases risk of mental health issues and absenteeism
Increased probability of resolution through improved emotional resilience of both parties
Greater self awareness leading to improved relationships and communication
Work performance improved more quickly with ongoing coaching support
Employees feel heard and respected
Increased trust in the organisation
More positive workforce
Improvements in productivity and team effectiveness
More motivated and confident individuals and teams
This work focuses on education to raise awareness and change culture within organisations. We work alongside you to explore expected behaviours and conduct in the workplace, the different perceptions and forms that bullying could take, and the impact on not only work performance, but also the health and emotional wellbeing of the staff. It can also include supporting staff to increase their own personal and emotional resilience to be able to better cope with complex situations, including supporting staff who are involved in allegations of bullying.
Early intervention is about providing support processes prior to having to move into formal grievance and disciplinary processes. Intensive one to one coaching programmes available as soon as the individual feels that they are being bullied, or have recently been made aware that they are considered to be a bully.
This one to one coaching programme supports an individual to move on after experiencing bullying in the workplace, or having been accused of bullying (proven or otherwise). The emotional impact often lasts for considerably longer than the experience itself, and can continue to have a detrimental effect on health, emotional wellbeing, home life and work performance without support to move forward.
The work around bullying is delivered through a small team, based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. All team members are highly qualified and experienced coaches and HR professionals.
If you are dealing with bullying, as an individual or a business, or even just need to explore your own situation from an external perspective, then contact us today for a completely confidential discussion. Bespoke training and speaking events are also available.
